Hurricane Irma is expected to pass about 100 miles from Atlanta heading northwest towards Birmingham. Tropical storm force winds are predicted. Fine and dandy. It’s gonna rain and be windy. We will lose some tree limbs and possibly some trees. We’ll get a few inches of rain. But that is no reason for the Governor to declare that people should stay home from work today. No reason for the schools to close. No reason for the public transit system “MARTA” to suspend operations.
I am a born and bred Atlantan, but I get ashamed of my people when it comes to weather. A half inch of snow will shut this city down. Now it’s shutting down because of rain?
