It used to be back in the day where the press would hang on every word a politician said, either to condemn it, or to praise it. But that is oh so 20th century. The in thing now is to condemn not what someone says, but what they didn’t say. A generic example would be a bad event happening and President Trump (and no, I didn’t vote for him) not denouncing one party or the other. An alternative to this is for the press to vilify the fact that he didn’t say it fast enough for this particular publication’s timeline, as Trump condemned the proper party, but didn’t do it in a timely manner. This isn’t limited to the left complaining about Trump, The right is just as guilty.
This all comes from the hatred of the other party from both sides. (A post about that will be forthcoming). Anything a publication can do to disparage a politician from the other side is proper in their eyes. Why not just report the news? (Look for a future post about that also).
