On my way in to work this morning I passed a house where there was an ambulance and a fire truck outside. It was 6:30 in the morning, still dark. The front door was open and a light was on in a back bedroom. If I’m not mistaken, an older couple lives there because I seem to remember seeing them outside.
I started to speculate as to what happened. Now I don’t know these people from Adam’s house cat, but it’s sad to me knowing that somebody there might be going through a life changing event. They could be having some bad health problems and they’re now restricted as to what they can do, or it could be worse. Maybe someone didn’t wake up this morning, their spouse woke up and found them gone. Now there is a major change in their life. Things like that make a person think. To paraphrase Jason Isbell, everything can change in 24 frames.
As I’m now getting older, I think about things like that. We go about our lives, we wake up, go to work, come home. Day after day. Tomorrow could be completely different. Not to dwell on what might happened, but it does cross a person’s mind when things like this happen.
Anyway, maybe I’m wrong, maybe this was just a scare and everyone’s OK. But I’m going to make sure I hug my wife a little extra tonight.
